TOPS: New Technologies to Support Older People at Home: Maximising Personal and Social interaction
The role of new technologies in health and social care for older people is attracting increasing interest as part of government agendas for modernising public services across the UK. Changing population demographics and the high incidence of long‐term conditions has led to an emphasis on enabling older people to stay autonomous and independent, living in their own homes and communities. For a project just beginning, TOPS brings together a multidisciplinary research team of social and computer science experts from both the dot.rural and SiDE Research Hubs to create healthcare solutions that will allow people in rural areas to maintain the important personal and social interactions they have with health and social care professionals. In addition to creating new digital means for integrating health technology and social contact, this project aims to achieve a better understanding of the interactions of care and social contact that will influence policy related to the introduction of healthcare technology in the home.
